Cloudflare has integrated OpenAI's GPT-5.4 and Codex into its Agent Cloud platform, expanding access to frontier AI models for millions of enterprises. The move enables businesses to build and deploy AI agents capable of handling real-world workloads at scale.
Agent Cloud serves as the operational layer for deploying AI agents powered by OpenAI models. According to the announcement, enterprises can use these agents to automate tasks including customer service responses, system updates, and report generation—all within a secure, production-ready environment.
The platform runs on Cloudflare Workers AI, the company's infrastructure for running AI models at the edge. This architecture allows agents to deliver real-time experiences globally while maintaining speed and security.
Codex, OpenAI's code generation tool, is now generally available in Cloudflare Sandboxes, a secure virtual environment where developers can build, run, and test AI applications. The Codex harness will also be available in Workers AI in the near future, expanding its reach across Cloudflare's developer ecosystem.
Cloudflare CTO Dane Knecht framed the integration as collapsing distance between AI capabilities and end users: "By bringing OpenAI's powerful models directly into the Cloudflare environment, we are collapsing the distance between intelligence and the end user. This allows developers to build sophisticated, AI-driven applications and agents that aren't just smart, but are lightning-fast and globally scalable by default."
Rohan Varma, product lead for Codex at OpenAI, emphasized the timing and necessity of the partnership: "Cloud agents are quickly becoming a foundational building block for how work gets done, and with Cloudflare, we're making it dramatically easier for developers to deploy production-ready agents powered by GPT-5.4 and Codex to run real enterprise workloads at scale."
The partnership extends OpenAI's existing relationships with large enterprises. Current customers using OpenAI through Cloudflare include Accenture, Walmart, Intuit, Thermo Fisher, BNY, State Farm, Morgan Stanley, and BBVA.
OpenAI reports that more than 1 million business customers worldwide directly use its models. Additionally, 3 million weekly active users engage with Codex, and OpenAI's APIs process more than 15 billion tokens per minute, underscoring the scale of adoption across enterprise sectors.
