Google is rolling out Skills in Chrome, a feature designed to streamline repeated AI tasks by letting users save prompts and execute them instantly across web pages.
The feature addresses a friction point in current AI workflows. Until now, repeating an AI task—such as asking for ingredient substitutions to make a recipe vegan—required re-entering the same prompt each time you visited a different page. Skills eliminates this repetition by allowing users to save their most helpful prompts directly from chat history in Gemini in Chrome.
Once saved, users can select a Skill by typing forward slash (/) or clicking the plus sign (+) button in Gemini in Chrome. When executed, the Skill runs on the page the user is viewing, along with any other tabs they select. Saved Skills can be edited at any time, and new ones can be created as needed.
Google is launching the feature with a library of ready-to-use Skills for common tasks. Examples include breaking down product ingredients for items viewed online, generating side-by-side spec comparisons across multiple tabs, and selecting gifts by cross-referencing budget constraints with recipient interests. Users can add library Skills as saved Skills and customize them to fit their specific needs.
Early testers have already created Skills for a range of use cases spanning health and wellness, shopping, and productivity. Health-focused examples include quickly calculating protein macros for recipes. Shopping applications involve generating spec comparisons across multiple tabs. For productivity, users have built Skills to scan lengthy documents for important information.
Security and privacy are built into the feature. Skills are constructed on Chrome's security foundation and utilize the same safeguards applied to prompts in Gemini in Chrome. Before taking certain actions—such as adding an event to a calendar or sending an email—a Skills prompt will request user confirmation. Skills also benefit from Chrome's layered protections, including automated red-teaming and auto-update capabilities.
Saved Skills are available on any signed-in Chrome desktop device. Users can manage their Skills by typing forward slash (/) in Gemini in Chrome and clicking the compass icon.
Google began rolling out Skills to Gemini in Chrome on April 14, 2026.
