Google is rolling out a new Chrome workflow feature called Skills that allows users to save their favorite Gemini AI prompts and reuse them across multiple webpages with a single click.
The feature addresses a common pain point in AI-assisted browsing. As Chrome product manager Hafsah Ismail explained in the announcement, users previously had to manually retype the same prompt repeatedly when visiting different pages. "Until now, repeating an AI task — like asking for ingredient substitutions to make a recipe vegan — meant re-entering the same prompt as you visited different pages," Ismail said. "To make this easier, we're launching Skills in Chrome, which lets you save and reuse your most helpful AI prompts and run them with a single click."
Using the feature is straightforward. Chrome users can save a prompt as a Skill by typing a forward slash (/) in Gemini and clicking the compass icon. The saved Skills can be accessed directly from Gemini chat history on desktop and will sync across any other desktop devices signed into the same Google account on Chrome.
Early adopters have already found practical uses for the feature. According to Google, testers have created Skills for calculating the nutritional information of online recipes and creating side-by-side comparisons of product specifications while shopping across multiple tabs. These examples demonstrate how the feature can streamline repetitive tasks that require the same prompt to be run on different websites.
To lower the barrier to entry, Google is also launching a library of preset Skills that users can save and use without having to create their own from scratch. These ready-to-use Skills can be customized to better suit individual needs, providing a foundation for users who may not want to write their own prompts.
The rollout began today for Chrome users with their language set to US English.
